American Patriot/Hero of the Week

This is something new I have been wanting to do. Each week I will pick a person who, I think, embodies the virtues that make up a true American patriot. I want to do this so that the youngsters will have REAL role models to admire and maybe learn a little something. Maybe we all will.
This week I choose Charlton Heston for his activism on gun and civil rights, his service during WWII in the USAAF and his status as a conservative general in the "Culture War."
Mr. Heston marched with Dr. King and even picketed one of his own movies because it was premiering in a segregated theater. Mr. Heston also opposed Affirmative Action for the blatant racism it is. After marching in the civil rights with Dr. King, his equality credentials, are beyond reproach
Charlton Heston believed in the 2nd Amendment. Speaking to the National Press Club in '97 he said, "Now, I doubt any of you would prefer a rolled up newspaper as a weapon against a dictator or a criminal intruder." He believed in our right to bear arms, and was president of the NRA from '98 to '03. He understood the the 2nd Amendment protected all of the others, and dared the government to defy the Constitution by showing his willingness to defend the Constitution when he said, "For the next six months, Al Gore is going to smear you as the enemy. He will slander you as gun-toting, knuckle-dragging, bloodthirsty maniacs who stand in the way of a safer America. Will you remain silent? I will not remain silent. If we are going to stop this, then it is vital to every law-abiding gun owner in America to register to vote and show up at the polls on election day." He then picked up a Revolutionary War musket and continued, "As we set out this year to defeat the divisive forces that would take freedom away, I want to say those words again for everyone within the sound of my voice to hear and to heed, and especially for you, Mr. Gore: 'From my cold, dead hands!" With The Chosen One in office I feel that this quote is more relevant to today's American society than ever before.
Charlton Heston was a true "Culture Warrior." He called right when he said, "Political correctness is tyranny with manners." He is a Real American Patriot and someone I very much admire.

there's never been another like him. We are the poorer for his loss.
